Punjab: FIR as singer Sidhu Moosewala shoots AK-47, DSP suspended

Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu
BARNALA: Punjabi singer Shubhdeep Singh Sidhu, popularly known as Sidhu Moosewala, has been booked after a video clip of him firing from AK-47 assault rifle at a Badbar village firing range in Barnala district went viral. The clip shows him in the company of policemen.
Punjab DGP Dinkar Gupta has also ordered the suspension of Sangrur DSP (headquarters) Daljit Singh Virk, pending an inquiry on charges of delinquency in duty.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the DSP had facilitated the shooting when the state was under curfew.
A departmental inquiry has been started against him as he is accused of unauthorisedly deputing police personnel attached with him at the shooting range and acting in a manner unbecoming of an officer.
The case has been registered against Moosewala, five police officers — a sub-inspector, two head constables and two constables, posted in Sangrur district — and others at Police Station Dhanaula in Barnala. “A case has been registered against 9 persons and investigations are on,” Barnala SSP Sandeep Goel said.
The singer is already facing a case in Mansa for a song promoting gun culture but has got bail.
However, he seems to have developed close ties with the Punjab Police lately, after he sang a song following the death of Punjab’s first coronavirus victim who had returned from Italy. The song was shared by the Punjab DGP.
Recently, he had even accompanied Mansa SSP Narinder Bhargav in handing over a cake to a doctor on his birthday on April 4 during the lockdown.
Earlier in the day, three social activists advocate Hakam Singh, Parvinder Singh Kittna and Kuldeep Singh Khaira wrote to the Punjab chief minister, the secretary home and the DGP for registration of a case under stringent sections against Moosewala and cancelation of his bail.
They threatened to approach the Punjab and Haryana high court if no action is taken in the matter in a fortnight.
