It has been weeks since the work from home culture crept in the lives of many slowly becoming the new normal. Google has been adding features to make work from home a better experience for its users.
G Suite users can now use Google Meet by just logging into their Gmail accounts. Last month Google had announced the integration of Google Meet with Gmail. This month, the feature has started rolling out for G Suite users.
"With more and more people working and learning from home, we want to make it easier for you to connect and keep things moving forward. With Meet in Gmail, you can easily start or join a meeting in seconds," Google had stated in a blog post.
The main purpose behind integrating the two features is to help the user switch between email and video meetings as per his own convenience, Google had stated.
The feature is being rolled out gradually for all G Suite users on the web. It will soon start rolling out for mobile users.
For some G Suite users, the feature is already active with Google Meet's options appearing right above the hangouts chat bar, a report by The Verge stated.
Users will find a 'Meet' option from which they can opt for 'Start a Meeting' option or 'Join a Meeting' option.
The feature will be switched ON by default for the G Suite users. Those who wish to switch it off can do so by turning off the video console in Hangouts Meet and Google Hangouts service. It can also be disabled by turning off Hangouts Meet and Google Hangouts service. Users must note that doing so will turn off Hangouts altogether.
Once the user opts for "Start a Meeting", Google provides a unique link. "Join a meeting" lets the user enter a meeting by entering a code to let everyone into the meeting.
Last month, Google brought in four most requested features to Google Meet. Google Meet came up with tiled layouts which enable its user to view 16 people at a time as against the four people that could initially be viewed at the same time. For G Suite users, Google also brought in low light and noise cancellation features. Users can present high-quality videos on a remote meeting by using the "Present a Chrome Tab" option.
The free version of Google Meet can add up to a hundred users at a time.
Google CEO, Sundar Pichai in Google's recent earnings call noted that Google Meet was adding 3 million users every day.
"We are now adding roughly 3 million new users each day and have seen a thirty-fold increase in usage since January. There are now over 100 million daily Meet meeting participants," Pichai said.
