GHAZIABAD: Two people died in Modinagar while one is critical after they allegedly consumed a liquid substance as they were unable to get liquor during the lockdown period.
The police came to know about the incident around 10pm on Sunday after the family members cremated the bodies.
Cops said they have seized three bottles containing nail paint remover, hand sanitiser and a chemical used for making liquor from the house of a deceased.
“During the investigation, the family members revealed that the three used to mix some chemicals and consume it at night as an alternative of liquor,” said SSP Kalanidhi Naithani.
SP (rural) Neeraj Kumar Jadaun told TOI that on Sunday evening, Mangatram Sharma (55), Krishna Pal (60) and Vipin (40) had consumed the chemical.
“They fell sick and family members rushed them to a nearby hospital where Mangatram and Krishna were declared dead. Meanwhile, the doctors had referred Vipin to a Meerut-based hospital. His condition is critical,” the SP said.
The three bottles have been tested and report states that one was a 10ml nail paint remover bottle, the second was a hand sanitizer and the third had some chemical used to make liquor.
