#FamilyIsEverything

Whether rescues or pedigrees, Bollywood loves their four-legged friends as much as we do

These stars are proud pet parents—and they want you to know it

A couple of years ago, my son and I went to a pet adopt-a-thon. There was no intention of getting a pet that day (or anytime soon), it was merely to test the waters. But, to cut a long story short, several tears at a Burger King later, we found ourselves with a puppy and no ride. After an expensive journey home, and with puppy pee everywhere, it finally sank in. Cut to three years later, and I can’t imagine our lives without Obi, our rescue Indi-mix. Fiercely protective and an infinite pool of love, he brings so much joy to our home.

For those of us lucky enough to have pets, they are indeed part of the family. It’s no different for these stars, for whom furry friends are a part of the family too.

Alia Bhatt

Scroll through animal lover Bhatt’s Instagram and #LoveThyPets is a tag she uses not only for her lovely cats, who play recurring parts on her feed, but also for a great picture of her boyfriend Ranbir Kapoor’s dogs.

Priyanka Chopra

For husband Nick Jonas’s last birthday, Chopra surprised the singer with a German shepherd named Gino, who already has his own Instagram account with a whopping 331K followers. He’s already overtaken his friend Diana, Priyanka and Nick’s other pooch’s Instagram, which has an impressive 150K followers.

Anushka Sharma

A vocal supporter of animal rights and vegan living, Sharma has made no secret of her plans to open an animal shelter. She and her cricketer husband share her gorgeous labrador, Dude, who often makes an appearance on their social media.

Farhan Akhtar

Earlier this year, the actor lost his long-time pet, Zen. He’s already dad to another canine, Jim, and has recently added to his four-legged brood with a rescue puppy named Tyson, who he’s raising with his partner Shibani Dandekar.

Disha Patani

Why have one, when you can have four? Patani has not one, but four pets: her dogs Bella and Goku and cats Keety and Jasmine. Whoever says dogs and cats can’t be friends should look to the Patani household, where we’re sure every day feels like a Friday.

Sonali Bendre

For cancer survivor Bendre, her home, with her pet lab Little Miss Icy, is her safe place, her happy place. From book clubs to coffee mornings, this little missy has quite a hectic social life. As Bendre puts it: there’s no better psychiatrist in the world.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Clearly a cat person, Fernandez’s feline family grew recently with the addition of Yoda, a Siamese, who joins Miumiu, the actor’s Persian.

Twinkle Khanna

The writer and her husband are proud parents of three dogs: two German shepherds and a beagle, whose antics routinely show up on her social media. With two human kids and three furry ones, we’re sure there’s never a dull day at this house.
