MUMBAI: A day after chaos outside shops to buy alcohol, wine shops opened in the
Palghar district on Tuesday. The shops in non-containment zones will be open from 10am to 5pm. Shops in containment zones will remain shut.
On Tuesday morning, a disciplined crowd was witnessed outside wine shops as they waited in anticipation. As the shops opened at 10am, owners ensured that people followed social distancing norms. Both shop staffers and customers wore masks and stood patiently for their turn.
The Palghar district collector issued the orders on late Monday evening.
Wine shops in the district were shut since March 17, around a week before other districts asked wine shops to down shutters.
Alcohol lovers who were then caught off guard would travel to Mumbai and Thane to pick up their stock. It was only after March 24 nationwide lockdown that illegal sale began.
