Coronavirus cases cross 400-mark in Thane with 23 new patients

THANE: Coronavirus cases in the city crossed 400-mark after 23 more Covid-19 patients were detected in the past 24 hours.
Within just three days, more than 100 new patients have been reported i the city as around 310 were detected positive on April 30 and on Monday, the number rose to 412.
Authorities said that the sudden spike in new cases was due to increased testing. Earlier, the samples were being sent to Mumbai. Now, the samples are being tested at CR Wadia Hospital in the city. The hospital is testing around 120 sample per day.
Of the 412 coronavirus cases, around 87 are from Lokmanya Nagar area, followed by 73 from Waghle Estate area and 59 from Mumbra. The city has witnessed 16 coronavirus-related deaths so far. Almost 22 per cent people have recovered from the infection and have been discharged.
Meanwhile, considering the rising numbers, the Thane corporation is planning to set up an emergency hospital with 1,000-beds to exclusively treat Covid-19 patients. The decision was announced on Monday by guardian minister Eknath Shinde.
“The emergency health facility will have 500 beds with oxygen lines along with regular beds, including intensive care units and is likely to be made operational at Saket within the next three weeks,” a civic official said.
