1. The tobacco industry has slammed government's cigarette ban as "irrational" in court papers filed on Monday. "There is in fact no basis to contend the prohibition of cigarette and tobacco products is related to combating the Covid-19 virus," FITA chairperson Sinenhlanhla Mnguni said in the court papers. 2. Dis-Chem has accused the Competition Commission of "scapegoating" it to show the public that it can prosecute excessive pricing as the country battles the coronavirus pandemic. The retail group appeared before the Competition Tribunal on Monday after the Commission charged it with abusing its dominance and charging excessive prices for surgical masks. Read more.
