Time to reopen the bookstores, they’re essential
THE EDITOR: It is very unfortunate that covid19 has affected the operation of our book industry. At this time, many people are experiencing boredom and would prefer the accessibility of actual books than reading from electronic devices.
Hence, reading from the various books and magazines available in bookstores allows them the opportunity of not only enlightening their minds but to a greater extent ventilating their pent-up frustrations.
In like manner as their parents, children are also bored within the confines of their homes and require activity books and exciting games which can be provided at bookstores. A long closure of bookstores would contribute to the academic failure of our children.
At this time, parents would like to have a variety of resource books and practice test papers to assist their children with preparation for the SEA examination.
Unfortunately, they would not be able to do so if the book industry is not viewed as an essential service. Therefore, there is the feeling that bookstores should fall into the category of essential services. Hence they must be reopened without further delay.
