Panchkula loses its braveheart in Jammu and Kashmir

Major Arun Sood’s family stays in Amravati Enclave, Panchkula
PANCHKULA: The death of Major Arun Sood, one of the five Armymen martyred in an encounter with terrorists in Handwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday morning, gutted Amravati Enclave, a housing society having a sizable chunk of retired defence officials.
“He made a supreme sacrifice. It was part of his duty and for what he was trained for. He was meant to save lives. I feel bad for his wife,” said Brig Chandra Kant Sood (retd), the father of Major Sood and a resident of Amaravati Enclave.
Major Sood, who was posted in the 21 Rashtriya Rifles, married Akriti, a resident of Kangra in Himachal Pradesh, two years ago. She works in a private company in Pune.
Major Sood’s mother Suman Sood is a principal in a government school in Yamunanagar. His elder sister lives in Australia and younger sister is in the Army.
The family moved to a rented accommodation in Amravati Enclave eight months ago as their house in the same society is under construction.
Major Sood’s body will be flown to Panchkula on Monday. His last rites will be conducted at the Manimajra cremation ground on Monday.
