SDMC of the
Honnetalu Government
Higher Primary School, which is located 70 kilometers from the district headquarters
Shivamogga city, has taken up this unique exercise with the help of Shri Kshetra
Dharmasthala Rural Development Project and Care Works Foundation, Bengaluru.
According to Nityananda Kendalabail, SDMC chairman, who is instrumental in launching this exercise, the idea is to help the people protect themselves from the
coronavirus. "First we collected the cotton clothes from the villagers who donated generously. Then we identified five tailors in the village who have lost their jobs due to the Covid-19. They are stitching these masks. The Care Works Foundation is directly paying them their wages, which is around Rs10 per mask. We are distributing these masks free of cost after a wash to ensure that they are hygienic," he said.
"Beside our village, we are distributing these masks among all the residents of neighboring grama panchayats," he explained.
"When the SSLC examination will start, we will provide masks with sanitiser to all the students of the Tirthahalli taluk. It will ensure that the students do not face any fear related to the virus," he concluded.
