BENGALURU: So what if we can’t fly out during the lockdown? This 41-year-old has recreated an entire airport with a control tower in his living room. A warship, cruise ship and an army copter — all made of waste material — to adorn his house.
What began as a pastime during the lockdown has now inspired Ajesh Soman to build a grand recycle art. Ajesh, who runs a home décor consulting business, has worked in Delhi, Mumbai and Dubai before settling down in Bengaluru eight years ago. Ajesh had always nurtured his passion for turning waste into something beautiful. “I got a chance to try it again after 10 years,” he said.
He used tissue rolls, water bottles, car purifier cover, mosquito bat for control tower, thermocol and other waste material which he has been collecting for a long time. “The aim was to use 90% of material available at home,” he added.
An alumnus of National Institute of Fashion Technology, he thoroughly studied the difference between Airbus A300, Airbus A320, Boeing 787 and Boeing 767 and spent almost 20-21 days planning his project. The next week was spent for his base model execution. “My wife and two sons were clueless about what I was trying to do in the beginning, but at a certain stage, they understood what I had planned and were excited to see the end product,” Ajesh said.
He also wanted to create something that has patriotic vibes to it. “I wanted something with a strong connection to the feel of India. That’s when I decided to build an army copter,” he said. His show-stopper is a cruise ship with a small swimming pool and a hairpin for a handrail.
