SHIMLA: Former minister and Congress leader Sudhir Sharma has questioned chief minister Jai Ram Thakur's claim that Himachal Pradesh will soon become coronavirus-free.
Sharma said that only a general survey has been carried out and the government does not have adequate equipment to scan all the people in the state. He said that corona threat is continuing in the state.
While presiding over a meeting via video conferencing with chief ministers on April 27, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had appreciated the efforts of CM Jai Ram Thakur for effectively undertaking Active Case Finding Campaign in Himachal Pradesh which has helped in screening of entire population of state for any influenza-like illness symptoms. Modi had had also requested all the states to follow Himachal Pradesh in this initiative to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.
Sudhir Sharma claimed that correct picture was not placed before the Prime Minister. He said that in reality all the residents of state have not been scanned and the threat of corona still continues to exist in the state. He said that no proper scanning of people returning from other states is being done at the borders. He claimed that at some places, people are being allowed to enter after taking their names and phone numbers and this can have serious consequences in future.
He suggested that state government should conduct random testing in entire state and number of tests should be increased.
He also claimed that adequate numbers of personal protection equipment kits have not been provided to health personnel, police personnel and administrative officers are at the forefront of combating Covid-19.
The CM had on Sunday said that due to collective efforts of state government and active cooperation of people, Himachal Pradesh is poised to emerge as corona-free state soon.
