An ANC councillor has appeared in the Giyani Magistrate's Court in Limpopo for allegedly issuing and selling fake permits to allow people to move between provinces during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi, regional spokesperson for the Directorate of Public Prosecutions in Limpopo, said in a statement that Cybert Kabelo Ramodisha was arrested in Makgakgapaji village on Friday, following a tip-off that a councillor was selling permits for between R250 and R800.
"The informer got the permit with an amount of R100 after he made an agreement that he will pay the remaining amount of R150," Malabi-Dzhangi said.
"Upon arrival at the said place, they found three other clients waiting to buy the permits where one of them told the police that she arranged with the councillor to come and get the permit for authorising her to travel to Gauteng for school."
Following Ramodisha's arrest, a laptop, cellphones and a printer which were allegedly used to type and print the permits were confiscated.
The accused is out on fixed bail of R2 000. The matter was postponed to 14 July.
