HAZARIBAG: Five persons were killed in Charhi after a Hazaribag-bound truck carrying TMT bars from Ranchi lost control while negotiating a turning and rammed roadside stalls and bystanders on Sunday morning.

Karthik S said four persons were killed on the spot while one injured breathed his last at the trauma wing of
Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital (HMCH). The incident happened around 7am on NH-33, roughly 20 kms away from Hazaribag, the SP said. Five others, including the truck’s driver, were injured, he added.
Deputy commissioner Bhuvnesh Pratap Singh told TOI, “Eyewitnesses said the truck, which met with the
accident, was close to another truck, which made a sharp turn. The driver then lost control while trying to avoid a collision and rammed into a few nearby shops and bystanders, who were buying milk, vegetables and other essentials at Charhi Chowk.”
Police said the deceased were identified as Vinay Thakur, Dilip Sao, Janki Prajapati, Rajendra Pandey and Om Prakash Razak. Those injured are Sanjay Kumar Singh, Deolal Mahato and Viku Verma. The driver and another injured man are yet to be identified. Sanjay was referred to Rims in Ranchi for treatment. The corpses were sent to
Hazaribag sadar hospital for autopsy.
Singh said Charhi BDO Neetu Singh has been asked to pay Rs 50,000 to the kin of the deceased under the state government’s family pension scheme and one house under the Indira Awaas Yojana. “Details of the victims will be sent to the chief minister’s office so that adequate compensation can be provided,” he added.
