NEW DELHI: Covid-19 cases in India have crossed 40,000-mark. According to the latest update by the Union health ministry, the total number of Covid-19 cases stand at 42,533. Of this, 29,453 are active cases, 11,707 are cured and 1,373 died battling the disease. Maharashtra is the worst-affected state with a total of 12,974 cases, followed by Gujarat (5,428) and Delhi (4,549).
Meanwhile, the Centre has decided to deploy 20 public health teams to worst-hit districts to assist states in implementation of containment strategy to combat the infectious disease. The lockdown in the country has been extended till March 17.
