A call received by two OnStar advisers working from home because of the coronavirus outbreak ended with a newborn's cry.
One of their thousands of emergency calls came from a mother in a Chevrolet Equinox who was in labor with her daughter in March. She wasn't able to get to a hospital before the big arrival happened.
"Hearing those brand-new cries in that car was an amazing win," said Jenna Stapley, one of the advisers on the call. "I am honored to be medically trained and able to continue serving our members through this pandemic, and it's calls like these that really make you remember why we do what we do."
OnStar says its advisers help deliver two babies each year on average. General Motors in March gave all current owners of its vehicles free OnStar crisis-assist services, to help them locate medical services or meet other needs. GM also gave customers 3 gigabytes of data to stay connected in their vehicles.
