From Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas’s first official outing together to Deepika Padukone’s debut at the event, here are the most memorable looks from our favourite Indian stars at the Met Gala over the years
Among cancelled fashion weeks and postponed season previews, the biggest change on the international fashion calendar has to be the absence of the Met Gala this year. The annual evening marks the opening ceremony of the fundraising gala for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute in New York City. What would have been the milestone 150th anniversary of the museum on May 4, the Met Gala 2020 was announced to be “cancelled or postponed” mid-March. As the world reminisces iconic themes and exhibitions from past years, we take a look at some of the most memorable moments and appearances made by Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone and Isha Ambani at arguably the most fashionable evening of the year. Take a look at our recap in pictures below.

Keeping up with the year's theme 'Camp: Notes on Fashion', Deepika Padukone arrived in an exaggerated version of Barbie with a pink Zac Posen gown at Met Gala 2019. For her third appearance at the gala, Padukone even took fans through the making of her OTT look in this behind-the-scenes video.
For her third appearance at the event, last year’s Met Gala, Priyanka Chopra walked down the red carpet in a stunning silver gown by Dior at the Met Gala 2019, alongside husband Nick Jonas. Chopra completed her outfit with a pair of silver pumps, purple drop earrings and multi-layered pendants by Chopard. But it was her dramatic cage crown that took the spotlight in the accessory department.\

It was in 2017, when Deepika Padukone attended her first ever Met Gala. For the big day she took the minimal route and donned a satin slip gown by Tommy Hilfiger for the theme ‘Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between’. The look was accented with minimal embellishments along the straps and hemline that matched her hair accessory and elevated the overall outfit.

It was an evening of many firsts for Priyanka Chopra. For Met Gala 2017, Chopra collaborated with designer Ralph Lauren and made a statement on the red carpet in a trench coat that was given an avant-garde twist thanks to a dramatic train. It was also Nick Jonas and Chopra's first red carpet moment together, albeit pre-dating. Relive her entry on the red carpet with this video below.
For the 2018 edition titled ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’, Priyanka Chopra collaborated with Ralph Lauren again, this time in a deep red strapless gown with an elaborate embellished headpiece in sync with the theme. Meanwhile Deepika Padukone arrived at the red carpet in a voluminous draped gown by Prabal Gurung.
As a supporter of the fine arts, Isha Ambani's presence at Met Gala comes as no surprise. In 2017, she made her debut in a nude dress from Maria Grazia Chiuri's first couture collection for Dior. She styled it beautifully with a clutch from the brand's latest collection, minimal hair and make-up. Last year, the businesswoman collaborated with Prabal Gurung for a statement-making ensemble that was in sync with 2019’s theme: Camp. Her pick: a full-skirted lavender couture gown in a floaty silhouette, punctuated with hand embroidered feathers and beadwork.

Natasha Poonawalla is not the one to play it safe in the sartorial department. Last year, the philanthropist wore a custom-made Dundas dress. Since 2019’s theme of camp called for theatrical designs, her Dundas number came with a crystal embellished minidress worn with a detachable draped skirt in icy blue. A silver belt helped cinch the look together. Her look was rounded off with a diamond maang tikka and tie-up shoes.
