In compliance with the Indian government’s regulations for lockdown 3.0, Uber has announced that it will resume services in Covid-19 orange and green zones, starting today. The ride-hailing platform had suspended its operations in March this year.

Green zone areas include Cuttack (Odisha), Guwahati (Assam), Jamshedpur (Jharkhand) and Kochi (Kerala). “If you are booking a car or an auto ride, to maintain social distancing, we recommend not more than two riders should travel at a time, besides the driver. No one should also be seated right next to the driver,” said Uber in an official statement.

Spots covered under orange zone are Amritsar (Punjab), Gurugram, Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Udaipur (Rajasthan), Bhubaneswar (Odisha), Kozhikode (Kerala), Puducherry, Coimbatore (Tamil Nadu) and Mangalore (Karnataka) to name a few.

The service remains suspended in the red zone. However, Uber Essential and Uber Medic facilities will remain in effect in these regions.

Uber Essential is available in Bengaluru, Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), Hyderabad, Indore (Madhya Pradesh), Mumbai, Nashik (Maharashtra), and Ludhiana (Punjab). Uber Medic can be availed in Delhi. Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Pune, Kolkata, Noida,  Prayagraj and Surat (Gujarat) among others.

Safety measures to follow during, before and after the Uber ride:

  • Wash hands or use a sanitiser before and after every ride.
  • Mandatory to wear a face mask/ covering during an Uber ride.
  • You can either open the windows for ventilation or ask your driver to switch on the A/C in the fresh air mode only.
  • Whenever possible, use digital payments.
  • Handle your personal luggage and belongings yourself.

Note: Drivers and riders can cancel trips if they don’t feel comfortable due to safety reasons. In such cases, Uber will provide a full refund of cancellation charges, if the rider submits a cancellation request through the app.
