Intensify nakabandi to nab tipplers going out of red zones: Nagpur civic chief to police

Nagpur municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe
NAGPUR: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation, in cooperation with Nagpur city police, will ensure extended lockdown is effectively enforced in the city limits.
With some relaxation of allowing liquor shops in rural Nagpur, municipal commissioner Tukaram Mundhe discussed the issue with police commissioner Bhushan Kumar Upadhyay and urged him to intensify nakabandi at every entry point to check movement of tipplers.
Mundhe ruled out any relaxation in lockdown restrictions in corporation limits.
“Lockdown is a rule and is imposed in rural and urban areas but only with some exceptions. Nagpur city is already in the red zone and section 144 of CrPC is imposed in the city which prohibits unlawful assembly of more than 5 people at a public place. So, we will neither allow citizens to venture out of containment zones without any valid reason nor out of the city limits,” he said.
“People will be allowed to go out of their houses only for particular reasons, including carrying out exempted economy activity or essential chores, as is applicable across the country. The movement of the people needs to be regulated to contain the spread of the coronavirus,” he clarified.
To a query, Mundhe said he had discussed the issue with commissioner of police BK Upadhyay about the widely-held misconception that lockdown is over.
“I have urged him to ensure lockdown and that section 144 continues to be in place. People are not supposed to come out of their houses. The should cooperate with both city police and NMC to break the Covid-19 chain,” he said.
