GUWAHATI: The
Assam government will announce the plan for the extended lockdown from May 4 on Sunday, which will mostly in conformation with central guidelines, but will have at least one major change in terms of the
curfew period, which will be advanced by an hour and will be from 6 pm to 6 am.
State health minister
Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “The detailed plan is being worked out, but all I can say is that economic activities will increase in green zone districts. We have also decided that the curfew period will be from 6 pm to 6 am instead of 7 pm to 7 am.” The early curfew period is in view of the early sunrise in the state, which is nearly two hours ahead of the sunrise time in the westernmost point in
Gujarat.
The state has no red zone districts and four districts — Dhubri, Goalpara, Bongaigaon and Morigaon — have been marked in the orange zone. The remaining 29 districts are in the green zone.
“But, the central government has authorised states to upscale the zones suo moto and so the state government can make its own red zones,” he said, adding that on Sunday the state government will also announce all the names of the districts, which will come under red and orange zone.
These zones will have to follow all rules and regulations as laid down by the government post-May 3. He said Assam was in a better position when it comes to the global and national mortality and recovery rates of Covid-19 patients.
“The global recovery rate till yesterday (Friday) was 31.3%, while the national rate was 26.86%. In comparison, our recovery rate is 69%. Similarly, our mortality rate is 2.38% from the single death, while the national rate is 3.28% and globally it is 7%. This is not a matter of pride, but we are trying our best to combat the pandemic,” Himanta said.
Till Saturday, of the 42 positive cases, 32 have recovered, while nine are still in hospital. No fresh positive case has been reported in the last 48 hours.
