Containment zones added in Salt Lake, Rajarhat

KOLKATA: Fresh areas in Salt Lake, Rajarhat and a neighbourhood near Kolkata airport were turned into containment zones following reports of Covid suspects and deaths in the last two days.
At Salt Lake, parts of IB Block and HC Block were sealed after two residents of Mizoram House and a resident of a police housing estate were hospitalised with Covid symptoms. Civic officials said two persons, who had come as guests at Mizoram House for some treatment prior to lockdown, were hospitalised and the Mizoram House was sealed on Saturday.
“The two had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Salt Lake for sometime before being hospitalised again with Covid symptoms. There are now 84 guests at Mizoram House, of whom 19 have been sent to a government quarantine centre and the rest have been kept quarantined at Mizoram House,” said an official of Mizoram House, adding that the two houses at IB Block are used by the Mizoram House authorities to accommodate guests when required. On Friday, cops cordoned off roads outside a police housing estate in HC Block after a Kolkata Police constable was hospitalized with Covid symptoms.
On Saturday, a 32-year-old housekeeping staff of a private hospital off Bypass was hospitalised with Covid symptoms and four of his kin were quarantined at a government unit. “They live in Duttabad and we have sealed the area,” said police. Salt Lake now has 12 containment zones.
On Saturday, an area at Dashodrone near Chinar Park was sealed after a 70-year-old with Covid-19 symptoms died at a hospital on Friday.
Also on Saturday, at least two neighbourhoods near airport Gate 1 and on Italgachha Road were sealed after two persons were hospitalised with Covid symptoms.
