LUCKNOW: On the occasion of International
Labour Day, chief minister
Yogi Adityanath interacted with migrant
labourers who have returned to UP from other states and informed them that the government had started payment of the second round of financial assistance of Rs 1,000 each to about 30 lakh daily wagers.
Informing them that the government had started industrial and real estate related activities in ‘green zones’ where many of the labourers would be able to find employment in the coming days, the CM said the government had made arrangements for ensuring rations for all persons, even if they did not have ration cards. Food packets were being distributed under the
State Disaster Relief Fund to everyone without ration cards.
“In the first phase, Rs 1,000 and foodgrains were made available to 30 lakh
workers and daily earners as maintenance allowance. On May 1, we started the second phase in which Rs 1,000 has been sent to workers’ accounts. Rs 611 crore has been paid to 88 lakh MNREGA workers. Foodgrains have been made available in two phases to 18 crore people, and from Friday, we have started the third phase of foodgrain distribution,” he said.
Enumerating steps taken by the state government for daily wagers since the start of the lockdown, a government spokesperson said: “Rs 160.82 crore has been sent to accounts of workers associated with the construction work, while Rs 76.69 crore has been sent to accounts of 7.67 lakh workers in urban areas. Another Rs 1,000 each has been paid to 5.55 lakh deprived people. The government also transferred Rs 611 crore to the accounts of 27.15 lakh MNREGA workers.”
Free ration has been provided to Antyodaya card holders, MNREGA workers, construction workers registered with the labour department and daily labourers of the urban development department. Meanwhile, migrant workers returning from other states are being given a ration kit which will last about a week and Rs 1,000 when they are being sent home.
“Meanwhile, after pressure from the industries department, around 45,000 industrial units have paid salaries amounting to Rs 603 crore to their workers,” the official added.
