GREATER NOIDA: Two bike-borne liquor smugglers, who were stopped for checking, allegedly dragged a policeman for several meters near Rampur village in Jewar on Friday. While the cop sustained injuries, the duo managed to flee the spot leaving a liquor consignment behind, police said.
Rajesh Kumar Singh, DCP (central Noida) said the accused were asked to stop at a checkpost, by sub-inspector Sonu and constable Ravi, after they spotted a box on the lap of the pillion rider. “As the bike slowed down, Ravi managed to get hold of the box. But as the biker soon accelerated, Ravi was dragged on for quite a distance. Although the bikers escaped leaving the box behind, Ravi had to be rushed to a hospital because of his injuries.”
An FIR has been lodged against the two at Jewar police station under sections 273 (sale of noxious food or drink), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), and 224 (resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension) of the IPC.
