Assam allows home-bound travel using own means

GUWAHATI: The Assam government on Saturday appealed to its citizens living or stranded outside the state due to the lockdown, particularly those in hotspot zones, not to return unless there is a need to even as it opened its borders for home-bound travel by own arrangement. Those depending on government transport will have to wait until allocation of trains by the Railways.
After assessing that the population of its citizens outside the state would be about 20 lakh, the state government has accordingly designed an evacuation plan by categorizing people into three groups — travelling from outside the NE region by personal or hired vehicles, travelling by trains and those confined within the NE region.
The state has been divided into five zones according to the destinations of these home-bound people and one quarantine centre has been set up in each zone. A helpline number has been activated for people, who wish to come by train, for registering themselves by giving a a missed call. Those coming by own or hired vehicles have to register through an email and will get the passes instantly for immediate travel. People undetaking inter-state travel within the NE region don’t need permits and are free to travel by making own arrangements from Sunday morning.
