Choppers shower petals on health workers in Goa

Expressing gratitude to medical workers for fighting the dreaded COVID-19 pandemic, naval and coast guard helicopters on Sunday morning showered flower petals on the frontline workers, including  doctors, paramedical and sanitation staff, at the Goa Medical College and hospital, Bambolim, the ESI Hospital, Margao and the Cottage Hospital at Chicalim.

Around 1500 Navy personnel also formed a human chain at INS Hansa near Dabolim to display a message thanking the frontline workers while three Coast Guard ships showed appreciation by illuminating from sunset.

This initiative of the Indian armed forces is a symbolic gesture to thank the COVID warriors for their tireless and selfless efforts during the ongoing pandemic.

Personnel from armed forces were also present at all three locations where they also distributed sweets to the doctors, paramedical and sanitation staff.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane was present at the GMC where he interacted with frontline workers and also the personnel from the armed forces.

“It was an electrifying experience to be part of today’s felicitation. I extend my gratitude for their selfless service to the nation at all times. We stand united against #COVID19,” he tweeted.

IANS ADDS FROM NEW DELHI: The Indian Air Force conducted flypast across India and its jets as well as transport planes and choppers showered petals on hospitals and places of national importance to express honour and gratitude towards the coronavirus warriors who are battling the pandemic.

It was part of the nationwide thanksgiving effort by the armed forces to honour doctors,  paramedics, sanitation staff, police and other frontline workers battling coronavirus in the  country.

The IAF choppers and jets, including MiG-29, Sukhoi-30 and Jaguar, conducted flypasts and Army bands played patriotic tunes outside medical buildings in most districts across the country  from east to west and north to south.
