PATIALA: In an alleged case of domestic violence, a middle-aged woman was axed to death by her husband on Friday. The accused, according to the police, assaulted numerous times on the head of his wife leaving her dead on the spot.
The police said that incident took place in a village of
Nabha in the morning when the couple landed in a heated argument, following which the accused took out his axe to kill his wife but she managed to run out of the house. The police said that the accused identified as Ballu Ram, 45, followed his wife with the axe and killed her on the road by hitting on her head numerous times.
The deceased has been identified as
Rani Kaur, 40, and is survived by two sons in their early twenties and a daughter who has been married off, according to the police. The case has been registered on the complaint of
Malkit Singh, son of the deceased.
“Ballu Ram works as a farm labourer. On Friday he landed in a fray with his wife over petty issues like many times in the past. Ballu assaulted Rani following which she managed to escape out of the house but the accused chased her and then finally hit with an axe on her head. The eye-witnesses revealed that the woman Rani Kaur fell down on the road but the accused kept assaulting her head with the axe for a few minutes leaving her dead on the spot. His son, who has lodged a complaint with us, had claimed that he made attempts to stop his father but all in vain. The complainant Malkit Singh said that his father also tried to attack him with the axe after he intervened to save his mother”, said station house officer Sadar Nabha police station.
The police have booked three persons including the deceased’s husband Ballu Ram, his elder brother
Jagna and Jagna’s son Rikkhi of
Cheentanwala village of Nabha sub-division. The police said that complainant also alleged that his father's brother Jagna and his son also used to indulge in violence with Rani Kaur.
