Covid-19 lockdown: Maharashtra to evacuate 1,500 stranded students in Delhi

KALYAN: The Maharashtra government has decided to evacuate around 1,500 students stuck in Delhi who are preparing for various competitive exams. The decision was taken on Saturday after Kalyan Lok Sabha MP Dr Shrikant Shinde raised the issue with chief minister Uddhav Thackarey who ordered officials to evacuate students.
The students from state wanted to return to their home after lockdown was extended again across country. Upon learning about them, on Friday night Shinde spoke to some students via video conferencing who claimed that they wanted to return back to their home.
Shinde told TOI, "I have came to know that around 1,500 students who are preparing for competitive exams like UPSC and others are stuck in Delhi and who said they wanted to return back".
Shinde said on Saturday he shared the same information with chief minister Uddhav Thackarey who directed principal secretary to arrange their evacuation on urgent basis.
Shinde said, "I have spoken to state officials who are now planning to arrange special buses and trains for students' evacuation".
