Indian team lead by Virat Kohli was the number one side in red-ball cricket since October 2016 but has now tripped to the third spot with 114 points with New Zealand bagging the number 2 spot.

India’s three-and-half-yearlong supremacy in Test cricket ends. Australia have bagged the number one spot in the Test and T20 rankings after the International Cricket Council (ICC) released its yearly update on Friday.

Australia overthrew India to sit atop in Test ranking with 116 points.

Indian team lead by Virat Kohli was the number one side in red-ball cricket since October 2016 but has now tripped to the third spot with 114 points with New Zealand bagging the number 2 spot.

Earlier this year, New Zealand whitewashed India 2-0 in a Test series.

A NEW HIGH FOR AUSTRALIA
On the other side, Australia with 278 points also became number one team in ICC’s T20 rankings. Australia achieved this feat for the first time since the rankings were presented in 2011 for the shortest format of the game.

India’s neighbour, Pakistan, who was at the top of the T20I rankings since January 2018 has also lost their place and slipped down to the fourth position with 260 points.

The current and updated rankings are based on the competitions that have been played from the beginning of the 2018 season.

However, the solace for India remains in the fact that they continue to top the points table in the ICC Test championship. South Africa saw the biggest fall in the Test rankings table with sitting at the sixth spot.

Talking about ICC’s ODI Rankings, the champions of ICC World Cup 2019, England remain at the number one spot of the rankings with 127 points.

India is eight points behind England at the second spot here. The top ten ranked teams are still unmoved in this format of the game.

The Indian side has advanced in ICC’s T20I Rankings by grabbing the third spot whereas England stays on the second spot with 268 points which is two more than India.
