Michigan Police Nab Dodge Driver Going 180 MPH In 70 MPH Zone

The driver of a Dodge has been nabbed by police for hitting 180 mph (290 km/h) in a 70 mph (112 km/h) zone in Monroe County, Michigan.

Michigan State Police (MSP) tweeted out a photo of the speeding fine where the vehicle is simply described as a black 2016 Dodge. That means the driver was either behind the wheel of a Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, a Charger SRT Hellcat, or perhaps even an SRT Viper, as these are the only three Dodge models from the 2016 model year that can hit or exceed 180 mph.

Local authorities later deleted the tweet as it revealed the driver’s name and details. A revised image with these details redacted has since been published.

“MSP has seen an increase with high speeds on roadways during this pandemic,” police wrote in the original tweet. “This person was cited for doing 180 mph in a 70 mph zone. MSP wants people to know, just because there is less traffic on the roads & warmer weather, there are no excuses for speeding.”

MSP First District Lt. Brian Oleksyk told The Detroit Free Press that in his 19 years of work, he has never seen anyone driving so fast on a public road with this driver caught traveling southbound on I-75 at approximately 11:45 p.m. on April 19.

“If there was a crash, to me, there’s only one outcome at that high of speeds, and that’s death,” Oleksyk said, adding that driving at such speeds puts innocent people at risk.

It was reported that after being pulled over, the Dodge driver said, “My fault, I was speeding with another vehicle. Sorry.”
