The two planes were parked with significant space between the two aircraft despite standing alongside one another. Within the course of one minute, the Boeing 787-8 took a 90-degree turn began moving towards the Airbus A350-900.  The former ultimately moved forward further and hit the latter. The nose of the Boeing aircraft was blown straight into the fuselage of the Airbus aircraft.

Qatar Airways said in an official statement that the aircraft securely parked. It also mentioned that the plane was chocked in accordance with the guidelines of the Aircraft Maintenance Manual. No passengers or crew were on board at the time of the incident and no injuries have been reported. Fortunately, none of the aircraft crashed into any airport infrastructure and the Airbus A350-900 did not undergo much damage.

According to reports, Qatar did not have the best weather conditions on the day of the incident. CCTV footage from the airport showcased torrential rain accompanied by strong winds. However, operations at the airport have been suspended temporarily due to high winds.

It is also likely that neither of the aircraft will fly again until any possible damage has been checked and examined by mechanics. Engineers will possibly check the Boeing 787 for any damage that could have been caused by the wind moving the aircraft, in addition to the nose area that was involved in the collision. Given the current lack of global demand, losing the two aircraft in the interim would not have much effect on the airline’s scheduling.
