This hard-edged British crime drama will draw you into its grimy world like a smooth-talking geezer, rip your guts out and leave you desperate for more. The Walking Dead’s Lennie James is brilliant as charming drifter Nelly, turned amateur sleuth by horrendous necessity. Watching him and Scott & Bailey’s Suranne Jones as exes reunited by the disappearance of their daughter is like being privy to a stolen moonlit dance. Mercifully, a second season has been announced.

Like American Pickers, but with feebler haggling, this distinctly outback collectables trading series is back to unearth more of the treasures (other than the precious metal variety) to be found in the WA goldfields. Kalgoorlie dealer Nigel Quick strikes a rapport with the owners of such curiosities as old signs and antique dolls, so sincere is his love of ephemera. His first stop at the historic Lake Perkolilli claypan racetrack holds gems for lovers of vintage planes, bikes and automobiles.

Prime
Anyone with a fondness for The Twilight Zone – or for steampunk – will love this stylish and wonderfully mind-bending short-run series (there are eight episodes) inspired by the work of young Swedish artist Simon Stalenhag. The Loop is a mysterious underground facility that makes weird things happen, from the swapping of consciousness-es and the freezing of time to transporting folk to another dimension. With a great cast and a soundtrack from Philip Glass and Paul Leonard-Morgan, Tales is all class. MH
