SWANSEA - Sure, we've seen drive-by celebrations for birthdays, anniversaries, even baby showers these days - all a result of the social distancing measures in place to slow the spread of coronavirus.

On Friday, the staff at Case Junior High School added National Principal Appreciation Day to the list of celebrations that have been forced to get a little ... creative.

Thanks to the organizational prowess of Lauren Farinha, sixth grade English Language Arts teacher, Mike Proulx, sixth grade history, and and Peter Soares, seventh grade math, a parade of more than 30 cars filled with staff celebrated Principal Bob Silveira.

Fariha said Silveira consistently goes above and beyond to support his school and staff. "In times like these it is especially apparent how much he cares not only for the academic wellness of our students, but the mental wellness of our entire community," she said. "He deserves praise every day but today felt like a good time to remind him!"

Farinha said the parade was the only way they could think of to show appreciation during the stay-at-home order, but she was happy with how it turned out.

"During our weekly online staff meetings he ends every meet with 'Make sure you are taking care of yourself and your families first.' It’s the least we could do," she said.
