Fire officials to take health dept nod before allowing those quarantined to join

Ludhiana: The fire officials had conducted special screening of over 100 firemen in April and following this those two of their employees were asked to go for 14-day quarantine for different reasons.
Now, when their quarantine time is over and the employees want to join, the fire officials are in dilemma on how they should allow these employees to join duty again. They have decided to approach the district health department for getting permission. The fire officials claimed that they will ask the civil surgeon’s office to first get both employees tested for Covid-19.
On April 15, a camp was ogranised for screening of these fire fighters and almost 115 firemen were checked for fever, cough and cold. A day before this screening camp a driver appointed at Sunder Nagar fire station had brought two mechanics for repair of a fan in one of the rooms at the fire station. These mechanics had come from Amarpura area, where the first death due to Covid 19 was reported and the area was declared a hot spot. When senior officials came to know about it, they sent the driver home and asked him to remain in quarantine.
Another fireman was working at the Gill Road fire station and was coming daily from some nearby village, where one case was reported, so officials even asked him not to come on duty. Now, these two want to return to their duty.
Requesting anonymity, one of the fire officials claimed that already there was shortage of staff in the fire brigade and in case their colleagues started getting infected like this, then the entire branch will face trouble. He said if firemen become infected then who will take care of fire incidents which are expected to rise in the coming days.
Assistant divisional fire officer Bhupinder Sandhu said, “We will write a letter to the civil surgeon, apprising him about the situation and will ask him to first get both of these employees tested for coronavirus and if their report will be negative, only then they will be allowed to join duty.
