The Centre today announced an extension in countrywide lockdown for another two weeks till May 17 but has added many activities in the permitted list.

Govt has divided the country in orange, green and red zones depending on the number of active coronavirus cases.

While most activities are allowed in the green zones, there are more restrictions in orange which further increases in the red zone.

Most importantly, govt has now allowed the sale of liquor in green and orange zones. Expectedly, liquor shops will not be allowed to open in the red zones.

However, the Home Ministry has said that sale of liquor, paan, tobacco will be allowed after ensuring minimum six-feet social distancing. No more than 5 persons will be allowed at one time at shops.

Sale of liquor was one of the most contentious issues during the lockdown period as it was a major revenue generator for states.
