Jason Kronsberg, Director of Parks Department, the City of Charleston said in a statement that the city decided to reopen most parks was with the assistance of the police department, the code enforcement department, the department of traffic and transportation as well as the recreation department.

The parks have been operating with less than 50% of personnel so far and the current phases will enable to allow staff to return to the parks. Social distancing measures will be prevalent in the city but no fines will be levied. Charleston would be undertaking an Educational Enforcement approach to make people aware of the measures even further.

Kronsberg said staff will be working throughout opened works and monitor mass gathering. They would also use gentle educational enforcement in order to ask people to disperse as and when required. He informed that officials are requesting people to avoid gathering. They have also asked the resident to refrain from picnic activities. Playground and exercise equipment are also not available for access as of now. He mentioned that parks are owned by everyone, and it is important to enjoy the natural settings and moving around maintaining the necessary distance.
