RANCHI: Political leaders, including some from the mahagathbandhan, on Thursday voiced their displeasure over the mass transfer of IPS officers amid the outbreak of Covid-19 in the state. On Tuesday, the government reshuffled 35 IPS officers, including those of DIG and SP ranks.
Though state Congress working president Rajesh Thakur said his party respects chief minister Hemant Soren’s move, sources in the power corridors say a few Congress ministers are not happy and will soon meet the CM and voice their concerns.
Former minister and Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Rai had also tweeted on Wednesday stating that even though it is the CM’s prerogative, he would request the government to allow the IPS officers to serve at their current postings till the end of the Covid-19 crisis.
He added, “At a time when the state machinery is engaged in fighting the Coronavirus, it does not seem practical to assign officers at new places. The police officers engaged in anti-Covid duties for an extended period in a particular district will be better aware of the ground challenges than new officials as the latter will require some time to understand the area-specific problems.”
State BJP chief Deepak Prakash also criticized the government saying that tackling the outbreak of the virus should be the first priority of the government rather than engaging in transfers and postings. A JMM leader, unwilling to be named, however, advised Prakash to question Prime Minister Narendra Modi whose government a few days back reshuffled several bureaucrats in the Centre.
Meanwhile, several police officers, including Ranchi DIG, have already joined their new postings.
