Chandigarh: CBI court dismisses Zaidi's bail plea in Kotkhai custodial death case

CHANDIGARH: The special court of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) gave no relief to suspended inspector general of police (IGP) Zahur Haider Zaidi - an accused in the Kotkhai custodial death case - and dismissed his interim bail application on Friday.
He had sought interim bail citing medical reasons. Also he has stated that he might be infected by Covid-19 as there has been no social distancing inside the jail where he has been lodged and stated that as per the Supreme Court orders to decongest jails, he should be granted interim bail. The case was heard via video conferencing where Zaidi appeared from inside Burial Jail
Interestingly, the same application came up for hearing at both the CBI court and the Punjab and Haryana High Court on April 28 and both had sought CBI's reply by May 1. Accordingly on Friday, when the bail application came up for hearing in the high court, the HC was informed by the CBI that the same bail application has been heard by trial court following which the HC adjourned the case till May 4.
