The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has ordered an inquest into the shooting death of Special Reserve Police officer Julien Emmanuel.

Police said there was not enough evidence to charge a suspect, 36, for murder or manslaughter, and his actions may have been self-defence.

Reports said on April 17 Emmanuel had an argument with a man believed to be his neighbour over chemicals being dumped near his property at Everglade Crescent, Edinburgh 500, Chaguanas.

Police said there was a struggle in which Emmanuel’s gun went off. He was shot once in the chest.

Emmanuel, 56, an assistant superintendent of police, was last assigned to the Child Protection Unit.
