Ludhiana: With the extension in curfew and lockdown period up to May 17, the civic body has revised schedule for carrying out ward-wise sanitization in the month.
But this time, there will be no sanitization on Sundays and employees will be given one day rest. Since March last week, sanitization has been going on continuously in the city through sewer cleaning machine, fire tenders and small machines.
The schedule has been fixed ward-wise and it has been circulated among councillors so that they should know when civic officials will get sanitization done in their wards.
The duty has been assigned ward wise on a rotation basis. In one day two or maximum three wards are covered because vehicles are made to enter each street. But despite such plans the residents made a hue and cry over the system. In some wards, fire officials had to face the resentment of the public when they complained that their street was not covered.
Recently, a tiff took place in Harbanspura area where residents of one street alleged when they asked fire officials to get sanitization in their street as well but person deputed by congress councillor of the ward had denied by saying since they did not vote for congress there will be no sanitization in their area. The fire officials had to pacify the residents by doing sanitization in their street as well.
Requesting anonymity one of the officials from fire brigade claimed that the schedule is revised for sanitization and it will not take place on Sunday but fire brigade is functional even on Sunday. He said now they will have to appoint firemen on duty according to their roaster so that every person could get one leave in a week. He said it is necessary to take rest at least for one day for people as well as machinery.
The superintending engineer of operation and maintenance cell Rajinder Singh said, “New schedule has been drafted and now on Sundays, we will not go for sanitization. The employees will get relief for at least one day and also if any machine needs repair or some kind of changes are to be done we can do it in the workshop.”
