Calling all WA students: Have your say on schooling during COVID-19

For our free coronavirus pandemic coverage, learn more here.

The subject of schools and students’ return to the classroom has been widely discussed for weeks now but a significant voice has been ignored throughout; children's.

It may be the choice of their parents whether to send them to school or not, but how do students feel about the decision? WAtoday wants to hear from the students themselves.

WAtoday is calling on students to write a short letter explaining how they feel about being back at school for face-to-face lessons, or staying home and continuing remote learning.

We want pupils from kindy to year 12 to write us a letter of no more than 200 words, telling us their thoughts and feelings.

Students who have gone back to the classroom, how did you feel about going back to school? What did you miss the most about going to school? What does it mean to you to be able to see your friends and teachers?

How has spending time at home made you feel about going to school everyday? How has school changed since last term? How was remote learning?

For those students who will continue learning at home, how do you feel about staying home?

How different is learning remotely to learning in the classroom? What are the positives and negatives to staying at home for school? What would you like to tell your fellow classmates and your teachers?

We will choose a selection of letters from students of different ages to share online.

We are most likely to choose letters that use clear, concise language; offer a personal perspective; and comply with the word limit – the shorter the better!

Mum and dad can help type the letters, but we want them to be students' own words.

Please send your letters to lauren.pilat@watoday.com.au by 9am on Monday.

Please include your full name, your age, home address and best contact number (your contact and address details will not be printed). Please do not send email attachments.
