VELLORE: Eight employees of State Bank of India’s Kaveripakkam branch in Ranipet district of
Tamil Nadu have been quarantined after an officer deployed there on a three-day deputation tested positive for
Covid-19.
A police officer said a 30-year-old man from Chennai had been working as an assistant bank manager at
SBI’s Ranipet town branch. He went back to Chennai after the district administration ordered suspension of bank operations in Ranipet town in the wake of Covid-19.
The branch manager attached to the bank’s adjacent Kaveripakkam village branch was on three days’ leave. The Ranipet town branch assistant manager was deputed as the in-charge of Kaveripakkam branch on these days -- on April 20, 21 and 22.
On April 22 evening, he went back to Chennai where he developed Covid-19 symptoms.
After he tested positive for Covid-19, his four family members were screened. His wife and elderly father tested positive for
coronavirus infection.
Kaveripakkam police inspector Lakshmipathy said “Based on the direction of Ranipet district collector S Divya Darshini, we quarantined all the eight employees of the Kaveripakkam branch. A house where the assistant manager staying on rent was disinfected. The entire Kamarajar Nagar residential locality in Ranipet town has been sealed.”
