CHENNAI: A 51-year-old Chennai Corporation assistant engineer (AE) working in the civic body’s zone 1 (Tiruvottiyur) tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, officials said.
The engineer had been working in some wards of the zone where positive cases were found, an official said.
"He may have contracted the infection there. But he was wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) while on rounds, " the official said.
The man was asymptomatic but had a liver condition, the official said. He has been admitted to Stanley Medical College Hospital.
Samples of his family members have been taken for testing.
As on Friday morning, Tiruvottiyur zone has 16 confirmed Covid-19 cases.
