AGRA: The number of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) positive cases in
Agra has doubled in 13 days. On an average, at least one Covid-19 case has surfaced in Agra district every hour in last 10 days. Till Thursday evening, 44 new cases were reported in Agra, taking the district tally to 474.
A day after two policemen of Agra were tested positive, including one Cheetah mobile constable posted at Sikandra and dial 112 constable posted at Chhatta police station, another constable of anti-Romeo squad of Sikandra police station was found positive on Thursday.
Apart from Agra cops, seven vegetable sellers of Basai village in Tajganj tested positive. While 12 cases are related to healthcare workers found positive, earlier.
Speaking to TOI, Rohan Botre, superintendent of police (city) said, “It’s next to impossible to trace first contact of the infected policemen, as cops are part of the frontline force, who are posted everywhere, including quarantine centre, hotspots, marketplaces, hospitals. On Thursday, we have quarantined nine cops who came in contact with infected constable.”
Officer Botre added, “The bigger surprise for us was seven vegetable sellers found positive from one village of Tajganj. Learning from earlier experience, we decided to conduct pool sampling of the vegetable sellers to ensure that infection does not spread among them, but now after the positive results we have increased our perimeter and have started contact tracing to collect more samples.”
Chief medical officer Mukesh Kumar Vats said, “All the new Covid-19 patients have been shifted to an isolation facility. A team of doctors is attending to them. People are being screened in the area."
District magistrate Prabhu N Singh said, “So far, 102 people have been cured and discharged. At present, there are 39 active hotspots in the city. They are being closely monitored."
