Coronavirus shatters Bollywood

Bollywood has come to a grinding halt, with film production and theatres shut nationwide, due to the 40-day nationwide lockdown.

One of the many casualties of the pandemic is Rohit Shetty's "Sooryanvanshi", which has been postponed indefinitely from a late March schedule.

With close to 9,500 theatres shut, business at multiplexes and single-screen cinemas is unlikely to bounce back for months, as people cut down on discretionary spending.

The drop and bleak future is mirrored by stocks of PVR and INOX Leisure, which have plunged more than 40% from their respective all-time highs.

With a re-opening unlikely until at least mid-May, estimated loss in box-office revenue is over $130 million from the time the last movie released.
