Many woken from ‘coma’ by covid19
THE EDITOR: Covid19 is here and maybe to stay, but I am an optimist. I believe that too shall past.
This virus has brought about a sense of awareness. There are both pluses and minuses, but I believe the pluses outweigh the minuses. Apart from the widespread death and destruction, the world has jumped out of a non-visual coma.
There are a lot of human beings who just existed daily with no inclination of what life is all about and who have suddenly come to life. Some of us have begun to see the real colours of mankind, not from a racial perspective but from a realistic view. A lot of termites have crept out of the woodwork, much to the amazement of others.
The Government has done a fantastic job with the preventive measures taken. As one of my colleagues said, “PNM lucky and UNC stupid.” The Opposition has played itself right into the hands of the Government indirectly. The general election ahead could be an easy win for the PNM.
Many people, looking for personal mileage, seem to have the answer for the virus. I suppose the social media is overwhelmed by all sorts of utterances from left, right and centre.
The ultimate came when US President Donald Trump advised the medical experts that he had the answer – a disinfectant vaccine. What utter rubbish. Not even the dump will accept such garbage.
While on rubbish talk I extend my heartfelt thanks to the garbage collectors, who saved us from total collapse. They risk their lives more than any other sector of the society, not taking away the service of the frontline workers, for example health, security, social. Hats off to you!
I end by making one recommendation. Include Dr Roger Hosein on the economic advisory team. He is very practical and raw. I refer to him as the primitive economist. His jargon is a breath of fresh air to the grassroots in our society. Don’t fall to pretty talk from the silver tongues (laugh).
We will survive!
