PRAYAGRAJ: The Allahabad high court on Thursday directed to list for hearing on May 4 through video-conferencing a PIL filed by BSP MP from Ghazipur, Afzal Ansari, seeking direction to the authorities in Ghazipur to allow ‘azaan’ (call to prayer) from mosques in the district.
Besides, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Govind Mathur and Justice Ajit Kumar also directed that a copy of the petition along with all necessary documents be provided to the chief standing counsel (CSC) at his office.
The court passed this order following a request made by CSC, who represents the UP government, through email seeking supply of a copy of the petition either in digital format or paper format to his office. The CSC also sought adequate time to file reply to the petition.
