Second-Gen Renault Kadjar Coming In 2021 With New Looks, Hybrid Powertrains

The second-generation Renault Kadjar will launch in 2021 and promises to bring a thoroughly updated design and a handful of new technologies.

The current Kadjar has been on sale since 2015 and underwent a mild facelift in 2018. The all-new model is expected to adopt a far more angular design than the current iteration. This will be particularly apparent at the front end, where it will feature ‘lobster-claw’ headlights, similar to the likes found on the Clio, Captur, and Megane.

Changes will continue in the cabin. Renault will abandon the infotainment touchscreen it currently incorporates neatly into the dashboard in favor of a display jutting out more like a tablet. Autocar reports the new Kadjar will also receive new ambient lighting and higher-end trim options.

Underpinning the SUV will be the same modular CMF-C platform as the next-generation Mitsubishi Outlander and Nissan Qashqai, which are also scheduled to launch next year. The flexibility of this architecture will allow Renault to offer mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains.

The first hybrid variant expected to hit the market will likely use a version of the powertrain from the Captur E-Tech that sees a 1.6-liter petrol engine working alongside an electric motor and a 9.8 kWh battery pack good for roughly 160 hp. A range of petrol and diesel engines can also be expected.

We drove the outgoing Renault Kadjar a few months ago and were very impressed with the refinement and poise it offered at a reasonable price. In all likelihood, the new model should be even better.
