GUWAHATI: With World Immunization Week on, Unicef hopes vaccination drives will resume in Assam soon as the state has very few “Red” or “Containment” zones.
“Immunization is vital now, more than ever,” Dr Madhulika Jonathan, the chief of Unicef field office in Assam said. She added, “However, we must keep in mind that we are living in a very difficult world and must take all precautions to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus. The government has been prioritizing its needs first and is working on resumption of immunisation drives.” Unicef has advised all parents to get their children vaccinated as soon as the outbreak is brought under control and routine services resume. “In these times, we urge parents to get their children immunised while following national and state guidance on preventive measures, including social distancing, washing of hands and maintaining proper hygiene,” Madhulika said.
