TS Tirumurthy, Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, was appointed as India's permanent representative to the United Nations on Wednesday. Tirumurthy, a 1985 batch Indian Foreign Service officer, will replace Syed Akbaruddin in New York. Akbaruddin has been the country's permanent representative to the United Nations for many years and is set to retire soon.

The ministry also issued a statement saying that the government has appointed Namrata S Kumar as the country's next ambassador to Slovenia while Jaideep Majumdar has been appointed as India's ambassador to Austria. At the same time, Deepak Mittal, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs, and Piyush Srivastava have been appointed as the next Ambassadors of India in Qatar and Bahrain.
