A father and daughter have been left homeless after a fire destroyed their house in Claxton Bay on Thursday.

Raj Gajadhar, 52, and his six-year-old daughter were not at home at the time of the fire, which he said occurred about 10am.

He said he left his daughter in the care of a neighbour and he was in Tabaquite when he got a phone call about 10.30am to say his home at Hilltop, Springvale was ablaze.

Gajadhar’s small wooden home was completely burnt and all his belongings destroyed.

He said, “I do not have a job right now, and any little hustle I get is what my daughter and I survive on.

“I am at a loss. I really do not know what to do or where to go for assistance. I lost everything.

"I do not even have an ID card to go anywhere to get anything.”

Gadjadhar said he does not even know where he and his daughter will sleep and is now depending on the kindness of his neighbours.

“We have no food, no clothes, nothing. Where will we go?”

A neighbour, Helius Hector, said the fire was caused by someone indiscriminately trying to clear some bush in the area.

Hector’s pick-up van, which was a source of income, was damaged in the blaze.

He said, “Look at what this person caused by their actions. Look at the weather – and this person set a fire. Nah, man!”

Anyone who wishes to help Gajadhar can call 289-4494.
